Is the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter BPA Free?

Yes. The LifeStraw Personal Water Filter (including LifeStraw Go) is BPA Free and completely safe to drink with.

How much water can the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter filter out?

The original LifeStraw can filter up to 264 gallons (1000 litres) of water before you discard them. The LifeStraw Go and Steel can filter up to the same amount, but each have a replacement part. The LifeStraw Go would need be replaced after filtering up to 264 gallons with the LifeStraw Go Replacement Filter. As for the LifeStraw Steel, there is a LifeStraw Carbon Capsule Replacement. The component can filter up to 26 gallons (100 litres) of water as replacement is needed afterwards.

Can I drink pool water with the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter?

No. Pool water is usually treated with chemicals such as chlorine. The LifeStraw Personal Water Filter (including LifeStraw Go) is only designed to remove bacteria and some waterborne parasites, not chemicals. LifeStraw Steel on the other hand, has an extra carbon filter that removes chemicals such as chlorine and pesticides.

Is my LifeStraw Go dishwasher safe?

No. The heat of the dishwater would warp the casing and potentially damage the filter. Rinsing the bottle and leaving it uncapped to dry should be enough to keep your LifeStraw Go clean.

What is the shelf life of an unused LifeStraw Personal Water Filter?

It has an infinite shelf life as long as you store it away from direct sunlight/heat/water. The same with the LifeStraw Go Replacement and Carbon Capsule Replacement for the LifeStraw Steel.

Can I use my LifeStraw Personal Water Filter on sea water?

No. The LifeStraw Personal Water Filter (including LifeStraw Go and Steel) cannot remove salt and cannot be used on sea, ocean or brackish water.

Does the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter remove heavy metals, chemicals or viruses?

The LifeStraw Personal Water Filter (including LifeStraw Go) is designed to filter out 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria and 99.9% of waterborne parasites. Chemicals, salt water, heavy metals, and viruses will not be removed. LifeStraw Steel on the other hand, is able to remove chemicals such as chlorine and organic compounds (pesticides and herbicides).

How will I know when my LifeStraw has reached the end of its life?

The flow rate of your LifeStraw will decrease and eventually stop pulling water through once it has reached the end of its life. You will never have to worry about drinking contaminated water from a LifeStraw as when the water stops flowing; it is time for a new one or a filter replacement!
